Aneta Bartos's Family Portraits Featured on David Zwirner's Platform Portal
David Zwirner Gallery has introduced Platform, an online portal highlighting contemporary artists from independent galleries. Available through August 15, the current selection includes four works from Aneta Bartos's Family Portraits series. These photographs feature the artist alongside her bodybuilder father, Zbigniew, in rural Poland. The images contrast his aging physique with her delicate presence, alternating between swimwear and traditional peasant clothing. Originally exhibited at Postmasters Gallery in 2016, the series builds on Bartos's earlier Dad project, which depicted Zbigniew alone on farmland. David Cohen's 2016 review described the work as poignant, gently absurd, and mildly disconcerting. The photographs employ both black-and-white and color palettes, shifting between staged and candid compositions. One work, Mirror from 2015, is an archival inkjet print currently accessible at platformart.com.
