Andy Warhol's Largest Retrospective in China Opens at UCCA Beijing
The UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing will host the largest retrospective ever dedicated to Andy Warhol in China, opening July 3, 2021. Featuring 300 works from the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, the exhibition spans paintings, prints, drawings, films, and photographs. Curated by Jose Carlos Diaz and Patrick Moore, the show is organized into five sections, beginning with early works and archival materials, then exploring Warhol's career through iconic pieces that blend art and commerce, inspired by 1950s-60s New York pop culture. After Beijing, the exhibition will travel to UCCA Edge in Shanghai. This continues UCCA's strategy of staging major retrospectives of Western artists, following the 2019 Picasso show 'Birth of a Genius' which drew thousands on opening day, and a planned Maurizio Cattelan exhibition curated by Francesco Bonami in 2021.
