Andy Warhol's First Arabian Desert Show Opens in AlUla
Arts AlUla presents 'FAME: Andy Warhol in AlUla' at Maraya from 17 February to 16 May 2023, marking the first time Warhol's work is exhibited in the Arabian desert. Curated by Patrick Moore, director of The Andy Warhol Museum, the show includes iconic artworks, rarely seen archival photographs, and ephemera centered on fame. Highlights include 'Silver Clouds', Warhol's 'screen tests' of 1960s counterculture figures, and a wallpaper design. The exhibition draws parallels between Warhol's reflections on society and contemporary culture shaped by new technologies and social media. It is part of the AlUla Arts Festival (16–28 February 2023) and supports the development of AlUla's contemporary art museum. A public programme of talks, workshops, and screen-printing masterclasses accompanies the exhibition.
