Andy SW's 'Fables' Exhibition Blends Art and Nature at Java Eco-Resort
From December 13, 2025, to January 13, 2026, Indonesian artist Andy Sri Wahyudi presented his exhibition 'Fables' at Yabbiekayu, an eco-friendly community in Central Java. The show featured surreal animal sculptures and paintings displayed both indoors and outdoors, including a clay frog sculpture placed in tropical gardens near rice paddies. Wahyudi, who also goes by Andy SW, explained that fables connect to the natural world, influenced by his childhood experiences with Aesop's fables carved into reliefs at the nearby ninth-century Mendut Temple. These temple reliefs contain messages about caring for nature and disasters. The Yogyakarta region of Central Java, known as the island's cultural capital and a hub for education and tourism, frequently experiences natural disasters like volcanic eruptions, tidal floods, and earthquakes. Art and nature are closely intertwined in this area, with Wahyudi curious about visitor responses to art placed in natural settings.
