Andrés Jaque to Lead 13th Shanghai Biennale as Chief Curator
Andrés Jaque, a Spanish curator, architect, and writer, has been named chief curator of the 13th Shanghai Biennale by the Power Station of Art in Shanghai. The biennial is scheduled to run from 13 November 2020 to 28 March 2021 at the museum. Jaque directs Columbia University's Advanced Architectural Design Program and founded the Office for Political Innovation in 2013, an architectural practice blending art, design, research, and environmental work. His accolades include the Frederick Kiesler Prize and the Silver Lion for the Best Project at the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale. Previously, he co-curated Manifesta 12 in Palermo in 2018 and has taught at Princeton University and UPM's Higher Technical School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM). In a statement, Jaque emphasized collaborating with local groups to integrate diverse sensitivities and knowledge through art-making, aiming to leave a lasting legacy for Shanghai's social fabric.
