Andrés Jaque's COSMO Wins MoMA PS1 Young Architects Program 2015 with Water-Purifying Installation

architecture-design · 2026-04-20

Andrés Jaque and his Office for Political Innovation secured the 2015 Young Architects Program award, a competition organized by The Museum of Modern Art and MoMA PS1. Their winning proposal, COSMO, is a mobile installation designed to purify 3,000 gallons of water within four days. Scheduled for a late June opening to align with MoMA PS1's Warm Up summer music series, the project functions as a replicable prototype for global clean water access. Selected from five finalists, the annual program challenges emerging architects to create temporary outdoor structures addressing environmental sustainability. COSMO will provide shade, seating, and water at the Queens venue while serving as a functional artifact with potential humanitarian impact. The 16th edition of YAP continues its mission of supporting innovative architectural solutions through temporary installations.
