Andrea Tich: From Cramps Debut to New Album Parlerò dentro di te
Milanese singer-songwriter and visual artist Andrea Tich, a key figure in Italy's 1970s alternative music scene alongside Franco Battiato, Claudio Rocchi, and Eugenio Finardi, discusses his career in a wide-ranging interview timed to his latest album, Parlerò dentro di te. His debut LP, Masturbati (1978), was released on Gianni Sassi's Cramps label after he sent a demo to the radio show Pop Off hosted by Michelangelo Romano. The album, produced by Claudio Rocchi, featured musicians Lucio Fabbri, Daniele Cavallanti, and Hugh Bullen. Tich later signed with Polygram for the single Sono Tich (1982), but canceled the contract to maintain artistic independence. In the late 1980s, he collaborated with Maurizio Marsico on soundtracks for silent films, including David Cronenberg's Stereo and Alfred Hitchcock's The Farmer's Wife, and released the self-produced Milano città nella città (1992). His new album, Parlerò dentro di te, produced by Claudio Panarello, was released on I dischi di plastica (label of the band Camillas) with a vinyl edition on M.P.& Records. The cover, based on Tich's drawing, was refined by graphic designer Raffaella Riva. Tich closes concerts with a remix of Masturbati by Francesco Franqsmusic Martini, hinting at a forthcoming special project.
