cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

Andrea Mastrovito, an artist from Bergamo born in 1978, has triumphed in the international contest to design the Agnus Dei for Barcelona's Sagrada Familia, noted for its radiant golden light and clarity. His design surpassed those of competitors such as Edoardo Tresoldi and David Oliveira. Crafted from blown glass and glass shards encased in a gold-leaf framework, the piece will adorn the cross atop Jesus Christ's tower. The Sagrada Familia, initiated in 1882 under Antoni Gaudí's direction, is anticipated to be finished by 2026. The "Concurs Agnus Dei" exhibition is currently on display at the Museu Diocesà de Barcelona until June 9, 2025. Mastrovito has showcased his work worldwide and has earned numerous accolades, including the New York Prize in 2007 and the Premio Icona in 2021.
