Andrea Mastrovito's 'YO LO VI' at PROA21 in Buenos Aires
Andrea Mastrovito (Bergamo, 1978) presents 'YO LO VI' at PROA21 in Buenos Aires, running until November 7, 2022. The project stems from a residency the Italian artist began in September 2021 in La Boca, a historic Italian immigrant neighborhood. Mastrovito transformed a palazzo into his studio, immersing himself in the area's history. The exhibition features a 15-meter installation inspired by Francisco Goya's 'Tristes Presentimientos de lo que ha de acontecer' from 'The Disasters of War'. Using drawing as a medium to explore reality, Mastrovito combines found furniture and fixtures from Buenos Aires streets with frottages of everyday objects, pushing drawing into three-dimensional sculpture. The work reflects on migration and memory, linking La Boca's Italian heritage to contemporary art.
