Andrea Mastrovito's Sisyphean Sand Sculptures at Littorale Biennial

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The sixth edition of La Littorale is happening in Anglet, close to Biarritz, and is managed by Paul Ardenne, who’s both a writer and art historian. This year’s focus is on the ideas of borders and socio-political issues as seen through geographic lenses. Among the selected artists, Andrea Mastrovito presents an installation called Exit Luce, featuring three sand sculptures on the beach. These sculptures depict emaciated human figures emerging from the waves, symbolizing a struggle between life and destruction. The work draws inspiration from the myth of Sisyphus and resonates with Albert Camus's thoughts on the absurd, emphasizing the cycle of falling and rising. Other participating artists include Art nOmad, Conrad Bakker, and several more.
