Andrea Mastrovito's 'Sette Stanze' at Palazzo Ducale di Sassuolo

The exhibition 'Sette Stanze' at Palazzo Ducale di Sassuolo, curated by Francesca Disconzi, runs until December 31, 2025. It features site-specific installations by Andrea Mastrovito (born 1978 in Bergamo) that engage with works from the Panza Collection, donated to Galleria Estense in 2005. The collection includes abstract pieces by Ettore Spalletti, Phil Sims, David Simpson, Winston Rueth, Anne Appleby, and Timothy Litzman, displayed in historic frames once holding paintings commissioned by Duke Francesco I. Mastrovito's paper sculptures—cut, folded, and layered from illustrated books—create pop-up landscapes of skies, seas, and flowerbeds. He won the 2025 competition for the Agnus Dei of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. The exhibition marks the culmination of his collaboration with Ceramiche Marca Corona under the 'Marca Corona per l'Arte' initiative (2024/2025), which produced two earlier shows titled 'MCm-Minimo Comune Multiplo' at Galleria Marca Corona in Sassuolo and Teatro San Leonardo during Art City Bologna. At Palazzo Ducale, the installation 'MCm'—a ceramic mosaic made with employees using frottage technique—is displayed in the 'Tra corte e fabbrica' section. Mastrovito emphasizes dialogue with historical artists, citing Spalletti's room as his favorite. The exhibition occupies the stuccoed noble apartments for the first time.
