Andrea Mastrovito's monumental inlaid frieze at Galerie Art Bärtschi & Cie in Geneva
Andrea Mastrovito's exhibition 'Le Jardin des histoires du monde' at Galerie Art Bärtschi & Cie in Geneva features a 30-meter-long inlaid wood frieze composed of 24 figurative works. The technique, refined intarsia, was developed with artisans from Bergamo, the artist's hometown. The frieze depicts a metaphorical synthesis of human history, from Greek and Oriental myths to modern space missions, incorporating bodies, geometries, landscapes, and utopian scenarios. Mastrovito, who lives in New York, conceived each scene as a film frame, with captions resembling silent movie subtitles. The figures have geometric solids instead of heads, referencing Plato, Dürer's Melencolia, and Goya. The exhibition runs until March 16, 2018. Concurrently, Mastrovito's solo show 'Symphony of a Century' is on view at Kunsthalle Osnabrück until April 2, 2018, featuring 30 works including three large-scale pieces: 'La melancolia dell'uomo invisibile', 'Symphony of a Century', and a projection of 'NySferatu' onto over 5,000 books filled with local residents' confessed fears.
