Andrea Mastrovito's 'I Am Not Legend' enters Pistoia museum collection

On September 26, 2020, the exhibition 'Io Non Sono Leggenda' by Andrea Mastrovito (born 1978 in Bergamo) opens at the Museo del Novecento e del Contemporaneo di Palazzo Fabroni in Pistoia. The show celebrates the museum's acquisition of the video work 'I Am Not Legend', created through a project by the artist and Casa Testori that won the sixth edition of the Italian Council 2019, a program promoted by the Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea of the MiBACT. The work, previously installed at Palazzo Fabroni, becomes part of the permanent collection. 'I Am Not Legend' is a 72-minute film made by printing every frame of George Romero's 1968 cult film 'Night of the Living Dead' on A4 sheets, then painting over each sheet with white to erase all zombies from the original. Over 100,000 drawings were digitized and reassembled according to a new script by the artist, incorporating thousands of quotes from about a hundred famous films, novels, and songs. The soundtrack features original music by Matthew Nolan and Stephen Shannon, with opening and closing music by Maurizio Guarini, who co-composed with Goblin the scores for 'Profondo Rosso' (1975), 'Suspiria' (1977), and 'L'Alba dei Morti Viventi' (1978).
