Andrea Mastrovito and Nicolas Deshayes Win Ermanno Casoli Prize and Battaglia Foundry Sculpture Prize
Andrea Mastrovito and Nicolas Deshayes have been awarded the Ermanno Casoli Prize and the Battaglia Foundry Sculpture Prize, respectively. The Ermanno Casoli Prize, now in its 16th edition, is promoted by the Fondazione Ermanno Casoli (Gruppo Elica) and curated by Marcello Smarrelli. Mastrovito's winning project involves creating wall engravings at the Angelini pharmaceutical plant in Ancona, using the resulting dust as the "active principle" of the work, engaging employees in the process. The Battaglia Foundry Sculpture Prize is a new award created by Fonderia Artistica Battaglia, founded in Milan in 1913. Nicolas Deshayes won with his project "Dear Polyp," which reimagines bronze sculpture using bronze as a thermal conductor. The jury included Camilla Bonzanigo, Martin Clark, Alberto Salvadori, and Moritz Wesseler. Deshayes will receive a residency at the foundry between June and July 2016, where he will realize the winning work.
