Andrea Kvas's Unpredictable Abstraction at Fondazione smART in Rome
Andrea Kvas (born 1986, Trieste) presents his solo exhibition 'BLAC ILID' at Fondazione smART in Rome, featuring works created specifically for the show. The title, an arbitrary and meaningless phrase written in a font designed by the artist, recurs in many of his recent paintings. Curated by Davide Ferri, the exhibition marks a departure from Kvas's usual multiplicity of supports and materials, focusing solely on canvas. However, variability remains central through a diverse range of media—acrylics, house paint, enamels, resins, pigments, shellac, and latex—creating a concert of communicating images. Kvas's process involves painting works in one orientation and then displaying them in another, disrupting both viewer and artist perspectives. The resulting colorful abstractions offer multiple levels of reading and depth, noted for their intensity and evocative character. This is Kvas's return to Rome since his participation in the group show '#80#90' at Villa Medici in 2019, curated by Pier Paolo Pancotto.
