Andrea Chisesi's D'Annunzio-Michelangelo Exhibition at La Versiliana
The exhibition of artist Andrea Chisesi at the historic Villa La Versiliana in Versilia is inspired by Gabriele d'Annunzio's deep affection for Michelangelo, whom he called "Il Parente." The villa is where d'Annunzio composed his famous poem "La pioggia nel pineto" in summer 1902, part of his work Alcyone. Until August 23, the show presents 41 new oil paintings on canvas (including a preview of a forthcoming exhibition dedicated to d'Annunzio at the Vittoriale in Gardone Riviera) and 70 works on paper by Chisesi. The pieces, blending myth and beauty, occupy the large rooms of Villa La Versiliana, with an additional room screening six continuous videos about the artist's work. Chisesi, born in Rome and later Milanese by adoption, now resides permanently in Syracuse. His technique, called "fusioni," merges painting and photography, featuring sculptural subjects ranging from classical to Michelangelo's art. The location, Versilia, is a land of marble quarries, the raw material for Renaissance masterpieces.
