Andrea Camilleri's Archive Goes Online for His Centenary

On the eve of what would have been Andrea Camilleri's 100th birthday, the Associazione Fondo Andrea Camilleri, established in Rome in 2022, has made his entire archive freely accessible online. The digitalization, supported by the Soprintendenza archivistica e bibliografica del Lazio, allows public consultation of texts, documents, theatrical productions, RAI materials, correspondence, and audiovisual content via the website fondoandreacamilleri.it. The platform offers free search, series-based browsing, and filtered queries. The project, initiated in 2021 with €45,000 from the Direzione Generale Archivi and additional RAI funding, involved cataloging, reorganization, and inventorying. Antonio Tarasco, director general of the Direzione Generale Archivi (MiC), described the archive as a treasure trove of the writer's life and artistic activity, fulfilling Camilleri's wish for cultural sharing. The archive, recognized by the Soprintendenza in 2021 as of inestimable value, spans much of the 20th century through Camilleri's human and intellectual journey. This opening is seen as Camilleri's last great gift to Italy and the world, embodying his belief in culture as a common good.
