cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

In Rome's Prati district, the Andrea Camilleri Archive and Study Center has been inaugurated at Via Corridoni, close to the late writer's residence. Italian Culture Minister Dario Franceschini described it as "a gift to the country, to the world of culture, and to all Italians." The archive comprises 120 folders, featuring 60 theater directions, 30 scripts, 300 screenplays, radio and TV adaptations, nearly all unpublished poems, conference papers, and correspondence with notable figures such as Orazio Costa and Primo Levi. Camilleri's daughters, Andreina, Elisabetta, and Mariolina, collaborated with archivist Patrizia Severi to gather materials from various locations. Architect Simone di Benedetto designed the space, which will host events. A related exhibition, "Il corso delle cose. Andrea Camilleri e il suo archivio," was launched alongside the opening, attended by Lazio Region President Nicola Zingaretti and Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri, who hailed the donation as "a gift to the city." Franceschini also revealed intentions to open Camilleri's home to the public, highlighting the significance of preserving authors' residences.
