Andrea Barzini and Silvio Pasquarelli's Plastic Sculptures at Fondazione Plart
At Fondazione Plart in Naples, the exhibition 'Meraviglie e Paradossi. Il design dello stupore' presents six large busts by filmmaker Andrea Barzini and architect Silvio Pasquarelli. The works, displayed on white pedestals like classical marble statues, are assembled from disposable plastic objects—bottles, cups, caps, and toy soldiers—in a blend of ready-made and found object. The show, curated by Cecilia Cecchini, runs from November 10, 2016, to January 7, 2017. Foundation president Maria Pia Incutti discusses Plart's origins: founded in 2008, it houses an international collection of plastic objects and artworks, focusing on conservation, restoration, and environmental education. The foundation also runs a polymer restoration lab and hosts the International Design Festival. Incutti sees design as an evolving process for improving the world, and the exhibition encapsulates themes of reuse and recycling.
