Andrea Barzaghi's Two-City Exhibition Explores 'Expanded Painting'
Andrea Barzaghi (born 1988 in Monza) presents 'Milano-Torino', a two-part exhibition curated by Stefania Margiacchi. The first part opened on April 8, 2021, at the Forme Uniche editorial office in Milan, part of Giuseppe Amedeo Arnesano's Emporio Centrale project. Barzaghi created a site-specific work reinterpreting the anatomy of the arm as a unit of distance and metaphor for connection between initial study and final stability. The second part is ongoing at Société Interludio in Turin, a house-gallery project by Margiacchi, featuring new works using 'expanded' and 'three-dimensional painting' techniques. In Milan, painted limbs emerge from walls as approximate measures of length and direction. In Turin, the installation 'Braccia' greets visitors with oscillating bas-reliefs in dialogue with the Milanese works. The exhibition's second room features 'Pittore con autoritratto', placing the artist at the center of social and intellectual discourse. The project connects Milan and Turin, now distanced by over 260,000 arms, as vectors in movement that also move art.
