André Butzer's Unseen Drawings at Gió Marconi, Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-27

André Butzer's new exhibition at Gió Marconi in Milan presents fourteen large-scale pencil drawings on paper (157 x 202 cm) commissioned by the gallerist in 2008. These works, never shown before, continue the artist's first solo show at the gallery, N-Leben (2006). The gallery space was redesigned by Kuehn Malvezzi Architects. The exhibition spans three floors, featuring vitrines with catalogs placed face-down to symbolize a break with the past. Butzer's signature biomorphic figures, such as the central Maria Aiutaci, and abstract elements appear throughout, inspired by Walt Disney's fantasy world. A dualism between inner and outer worlds is expressed through identical color palettes in the vibrant recent paintings.
