Ancona port demolishes street art mural by Blu and Ericailcane

cultural-heritage · 2026-05-04

The Port Authority of Ancona has decided to demolish 46 silos on the Darsena Marche, along with the mural "Bottles" by Blu and Ericailcane, to free up 82,000 square meters for new economic development. The silos, used for grain storage, required costly maintenance and were no longer needed after companies Silos Granari Sicilia and Sai did not renew their concession. The mural was created in 2008 as part of the POP UP! festival, curated by Allegra Corbo and organized by the MAC Association, which invited international street artists to revitalize the city. The demolition highlights the ephemeral nature of street art and raises questions about cultural identity and urban regeneration.
