Anca Mureșan's 'Painting Unbound' at ARSMONITOR, Bucharest

exhibition · 2026-04-16

Anca Mureșan's solo exhibition 'PAINTING UNBOUND' is on view at ARSMONITOR in Bucharest from March 26 to May 7, 2026. The show presents works that blur the line between image and text, drawing on Georges Didi-Huberman's concept of the 'open image.' Mureșan's paintings are built through layered sedimentation over long periods, creating palimpsest-like surfaces that resist traditional representation. The exhibition includes works such as 'no title (the edge of a structure)' (2018–2019), 'no title (four times)' (2021–2023), 'no title (black postcards)' (2019–2022), 'no title (big white drop)' (2016–2023), 'Mitte woanders (middle somewhere else)' (2016), 'vielleicht ja (maybe yes)' (2025–2026), 'no title (standpoint)' (2021–2022), 'no title (overexposed horizon)' (2022–2023), and 'no title (switched view)' (2021–2023). The artist refers to her works as 'instances' that witness an inner world. Photos by Ionuț Dobre.
