Anastasia Sosunova's 'Employee of the Month' at eastcontemporary Milan

Anastasia Sosunova (Ignalina, 1993) presents 'Employee of the Month' at eastcontemporary in Milan, transforming the gallery into an aseptic evocation of a hardware store. The exhibition explores corporate ethics through the lens of the Lithuanian DIY chain Senukai. Sosunova, a fluid-identity artist from a small Lithuanian town near the Russian border, uses bilingualism and her cultural-religious background to address complex themes. The show features plywood panels with old photographs and aluminum plates with copper and zinc engravings, referencing Senukai and Dürer's Saint John from the Apocalypse (1496-98). Works like 'Sun Mother' (2021) depict an employee offering a computer to the sky. The installation includes a forced bow before a plywood and silicone cake inscribed with 'Employee of the Month,' questioning who truly benefits from corporate efficiency.
