Amy Sillman's 'Mostly Drawing' Exhibition at Gladstone 64 Challenges Conventions with Zine Pairings

exhibition · 2026-04-20

From January 26 to March 3, 2018, Amy Sillman showcased her inaugural exhibition, 'Mostly Drawing,' at Gladstone 64 in New York. The exhibit featured 30 pieces, mostly measuring approximately 102 × 66 cm, and filled the gallery walls, challenging traditional white-cube aesthetics. Accompanying the exhibition was a black-and-white zine that included contributions from Alexander May, Jess Arndt, and Erika Vogt, as well as works by Carol Rama and Rebecca Watson Horn. Sillman's creative approach merged silkscreening with painting, delving into themes of painting and language. Notable pieces such as SK40, SK21, and SK47 juxtaposed ethereal white overpainting with vivid colors, while XL–18–1 (2018) highlighted her recurring foot motif. The exhibition received coverage in the April 2018 edition of ArtReview.
