Amsterdam Art Week 2024 Showcases 300+ Artists with Major Abramović Retrospective and Feminist Exhibition
Amsterdam Art Week's 12th edition transforms the Dutch capital into a contemporary art hub from May 29 to June 2, featuring over 300 artists across more than 70 venues. The Stedelijk Museum presents the largest-ever Netherlands retrospective of Marina Abramović, spanning five decades with more than 60 works including early pieces from former Yugoslavia and Amsterdam, plus collaborative performances with Ulay. At Capital C, The Future is Equal exhibition responds to Boekman Foundation research revealing female artists earn 20% less than males and have lower museum acquisition rates; curated by The Young Collectors, it showcases work by Shani Leseman, Sarah Mei Herman, and Hedy Tjin. NXT Museum displays Marco Brambilla's Megaplex series installations Creation (2012) and Heaven's Gate (2022) until June 2, featuring digitally composed scenes from hundreds of film fragments. CBK Zuidoost hosts a collaborative exhibition pairing photographer Hannes Wallrafen's archival material with Kevin Osepa's sound-inspired installation, referencing Wallrafen's recordings from Curaçao after losing his sight in 2004. Galerie Bart presents Nomin Zezegmaa's multidisciplinary exhibition The Wind on the Other Side until July 27, exploring Mongol cosmogony and connections between physical and spiritual realms. The week's programming highlights diverse artistic practices from conceptual performance to digital video and feminist curation.
