Amol K Patil Awarded First Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation/Kochi-Muziris Biennale Prize
Amol K Patil has been named the inaugural recipient of the Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation/Kochi-Muziris Biennale Award, a new prize established by the Hayward Gallery, Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation, and Kochi Biennale Foundation to spotlight emerging South Asian artists at the Kochi Biennale. His winning installation, The Politics of Skin and Movement, featured at the biennale's fifth edition from 22 December 2022 to 10 April 2023, incorporates drawings, sculptures, objects, and moving images from family archives to explore labor, casteism, and community access. Patil described the work as a series of subtle movements meditating on bodily senses like touch and sound. The award includes a solo exhibition and lecture program at Hayward Gallery's HENI Project Space, scheduled from 9 October to 19 November 2023.
