Amoako Boafo Recreates Accra Studio in Los Angeles Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-22

Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo presents "I Bring Home with Me" at Roberts Projects in Los Angeles, featuring a life-sized architectural replica of his Accra studio. Created in collaboration with architect and designer Glenn DeRoche, the exhibition integrates Boafo's signature portraiture within the structure. His paintings depict Black subjects, often friends, family, or public figures, rendered with finger-painted skin textures. The installation includes Monstera wallpaper, porous dividers, and floral seat covers that mirror his artistic techniques like paper transfers and impasto. Boafo aims to convey the community gatherings and sensory experiences central to his studio practice. The show runs through March 21.
