Amman Design Week 2019 Explores 'Possibilities' Across Three Districts

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

Amman Design Week (ADW) 2019, running from October 4 to 12, is themed 'Possibilities'—a plural invitation for designers to reimagine the world and the field of design itself. The event encourages moving beyond traditional problem-solving, using dreaming as a tool to envision new futures and storytelling to revive past traditions. Activities are spread across three urban districts: Ras El Ain hosts large-scale exhibitions including Hangar Exhibition, Student Exhibition, and Future Food/Future City, alongside a public program of talks and music. The Crafts District, curated by Arini (Liyan Jabi, Sara Yaseen, Mohammad Jabi, Heba Najada, and Jafar Jabi), takes place in historic houses in Jabal Amman, built in the 1920s and 1930s, showcasing traditional and contemporary craft. Over 55 participating spaces include galleries, museums, schools, universities, concept stores, and design studios. ADW has significantly changed Amman's design landscape since its inception, creating a connecting point for designers, fostering collaborations with producers, artisans, and clients, and spurring a new event infrastructure. The week aims to preserve Jordanian identity and tradition through craft and materials, offering young Jordanians a local platform for creative solutions.
