artist · 2026-04-27

Egyptian-born filmmaker and director of photography Amir RA (Cairo, 1987) has released a new video titled 'Origines 7053', the second installment of a project dedicated to second-generation Italian youth and their artistic talent. The work explores identity through an explicit investigation of roots and primordial origins, expressed via an ancestral connection between humans and nature. Two female dancers perform a passionate, non-competitive dance of survival in a natural setting, embodying dedication, passion, and resistance. The musical score was composed by Dario Lanzellotti (Bangla, Fandango). The video's soundtrack features a 1985 speech by civil rights activist Rosa Parks at the City Club of Cleveland, recounting her arrest for refusing to give up her seat on a public bus. Parks was returning home from her job as a seamstress in a department store on a cold day; unable to find a seat in the African American section, she sat in the common section behind the white row. When the driver demanded she vacate the seat, she refused with dignified firmness and was arrested for improper conduct. On November 13, 1956, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled racial segregation on public transportation unconstitutional. Parks died in Detroit on October 24, 2005. The title 'Origines 7053' references the police mugshot number displayed at her funeral in Montgomery.
