Amir Naderi Wins Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award at Venice 73

Iranian filmmaker Amir Naderi has been awarded the Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker prize at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival. The award, presented by festival director Alberto Barbera, continues the festival's tradition of honoring Iranian directors, following a restored film by Mohsen Makhmalbaf and a tribute to Abbas Kiarostami. Naderi dedicated the prize to the new generation of young Iranian filmmakers, affirming his commitment to making films autonomously despite the personal cost of perpetual exile. His latest film, "Monte," set in a timeless medieval landscape, was screened after the ceremony. The narrative follows protagonists battling a mountain that blocks the sun, rendering the land barren—a symbolic struggle that echoes contemporary Middle Eastern conflicts.
