Americas Society to Present Lilia Carrillo's First New York Survey
Americas Society will debut "Lilia Carrillo: Ruptures and Premonitions" on May 13, 2026, marking the first New York exhibition dedicated to the Mexican painter (1930–1974). Curated by Tobias Ostrander, the show features two dozen paintings from 1961 to 1974, plus archival materials. Carrillo was a key figure of the Generación de la Ruptura, a postwar group that broke from Mexican muralism. Her work engages with European Informalism and Abstract Expressionism while maintaining a distinct, layered style. The exhibition runs through August 1, 2026.
