AMERICAS Exhibition at EXMA in Cagliari Draws from Manca Collection

The exhibition 'AMERICAS' at EXMA in Cagliari is the second installment of 'Sguardi sul mondo attuale', curated by Simona Campus. The show features works from the private collection of Antonio Manca, including pieces by Cindy Sherman, Carlos Garaicoa, Andres Serrano, David LaChapelle, Nan Goldin, Catherine Opie, Susan Paulsen, Bill Owens, and Sandy Skoglund. It explores the American continent from Canada to Mexico, structured as a journey. The exhibition opens with Bill Owens' photographs from 1969, capturing the era of protests, the moon landing, and Woodstock, then transitions to the shift from hippie to yuppie culture in the 1970s-80s, exemplified by David LaChapelle's 'Free Consultation (Surgery Story)' from 1997. Later sections delve into private realms with Nan Goldin's intimate shots and works by Catherine Opie and Susan Paulsen. A temporary library allows visitors to consult art books from the Manca collection. The exhibition aims to promote sharing and social cohesion, referencing Paul Valéry's essay.
