American Doctor Documentary Exposes Gaza Atrocities at Angelika Film Center

The documentary 'American Doctor' (2026), directed by journalist Poh Si Teng, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is now screening at the Angelika Film Center in Manhattan. The film follows three American humanitarian physicians—Mark Perlmutter, a Jewish American orthopedic surgeon; Feroze Sidhwa, a Zoroastrian trauma surgeon; and Thaer Ahmad, a Chicago-based emergency physician—as they navigate the horrors of genocide while treating civilians in the under-resourced Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, Gaza. Produced urgently in one year with on-the-ground footage by Gaza cinematography company Alef Multimedia, the documentary uses the physicians' accounts as evidence of the cruelty inflicted on Gaza. It has been acquired by Watermelon Pictures for distribution. Notably, Thaer Ahmad, who is of Palestinian heritage, has been repeatedly denied entry into Gaza by Israel since 2024 for aid brigades. The film serves as an indictment of US leadership and media, highlighting the humanitarian crisis and the challenges faced by aid workers.
