American Academy of Arts and Letters Honors Artists with Awards and Exhibition
On May 17, 2012, the American Academy of Arts and Letters will unveil its annual exhibition at 633 West 155 Street, New York City, which will be open Thursday through Sunday from 1 to 4 pm, concluding on Memorial Day. This exhibition showcases artists chosen by their peers, with an award selection committee featuring Lois Dodd, Wolf Kahn, and Joel Shapiro. Chuck Close is set to give the keynote speech. Awards presented include the Jimmy Ernst Award to Forrest Myers and the Merit Medal to Joyce Pensato. John Newman and Rebecca Smith are also recognized, while young artist awards go to Nathlie Provosty, Elisa Soliven, and Nicole Wittenberg. New members include Lynda Benglis and Kara Walker. Additionally, Nicole Wittenberg's first solo exhibition opens on May 24 at Freight & Volume Gallery.
