Amber Pjongluck's Two-Metre-Long Book Catalogues a Life in Objects

Designer Amber Pjongluck has created a two-metre-long, Risograph-printed book titled 'Find The Earth' as her thesis project for Parsons School of Design. The publication serves as a personal archive, gathering, sorting, and reorienting memories through a catalogue of objects. The book is structured into categories of 'remembered, forgetting and forgotten' to lay out the designer's life. Pjongluck's practice revolves around collecting and curating archives, often in book form, which she describes as 'design artefacts from periods in my life.' Her interest in systems of organisation stems from childhood visits to her school library, where she was fascinated by the methodical system rather than individual book designs. In a previous work, 'The Shell,' she compiled film stills, paintings, and fashion campaigns into four archetypes: 'the shell, mind windmills, Mary Shelley and the matriarchy.' Pjongluck's process is guided by 'the materiality of printed matter, visual research and analogue processes.'
