Amazon partners with Einride to deploy 75 electric heavy-duty trucks in U.S. freight operations

other · 2026-04-21

Amazon is set to incorporate 75 electric heavy-duty trucks, operated manually, from Swedish startup Einride into its middle-mile freight network in the U.S. Drivers will utilize the Amazon Relay platform to access loads. Einride is also responsible for establishing charging infrastructure at five locations across the U.S. and will implement its Saga AI platform to oversee route and charging logistics for Amazon shipments. The fleet is projected to cover nearly three million miles each year without producing tailpipe emissions. Financial details remain undisclosed. This initiative follows Amazon's previous electrification steps, including a deployment of 50 Volvo trucks near Southern California ports in 2024 and a 200-truck order from Mercedes in Europe for 2025. By mid-last year, Amazon's trailer count surpassed 70,000. Einride is moving towards a public listing backed by SPAC through Legato Merger Corp. III, anticipated to finalize in the first half of this year and raise over $300 million, following a PIPE offering that garnered around $113 million in February. While this partnership does not include autonomous trucking, Einride operates autonomous vehicles in Texas and has a driverless freight route for GE Appliances from Selmer, Tennessee.
