Amandine Pierné and Emmanuelle Samson at Galerie Ilka Bree and Tinbox

Amandine Pierné's exhibition at Galerie Ilka Bree (02/06-11/07/09) and Emmanuelle Samson's at Galerie Tinbox in Bordeaux (02/04-16/05/09) explore transformation and perception. Pierné employs a method akin to fencing, using feints and dodges to create subtle displacements in scale and angle. She combines found hair elastics and hairpieces into ritual objects, reproduces water damage in watercolor, turns Christmas decorations into mustaches, and depicts hairstyles as topiary. Her work introduces a minimal but decisive shift that destabilizes recognition. Galerie Tinbox features a classic exhibition space and a mobile red box on wheels, resembling a phone booth or Japanese capsule hotel. For this venue, Emmanuelle Samson dissected and recomposed the box, allowing light into hidden dimensions and revealing the origins of her drawings. The exploded box appears infinite, without beginning or end, blurring boundaries between inside and outside, veiled and unveiled.
