Amanda Gorman's Prada Look and Poem Steal Biden Inauguration Show

At the January 20, 2021 inauguration of President Joe Biden, 22-year-old poet Amanda Gorman became the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history. Her poem, composed amid pandemic and political tension, aimed to illuminate issues long kept in darkness, drawing inspiration from Black poets Maya Angelou and Elizabeth Alexander, as well as Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, and Martin Luther King Jr. Gorman's double-breasted yellow Prada coat and red headband, chosen for their feminist resonance with designer Miuccia Prada, drew widespread attention. Oprah Winfrey gifted her gold hoop earrings by Nikos Koulis and a ring from Of Rare Origin. Gorman had been named Youth Poet Laureate of Los Angeles in 2014 and the first National Youth Poet Laureate in 2017.
