AMACI's Contemporary Day: Seven Years of Guiding Images

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

The 15th edition of Italy's Contemporary Day, organized by AMACI, will take place on October 12, 2019, with free admission to over a thousand contemporary art venues in Italy and abroad. For the first time, Italian embassies, consulates, and cultural institutes worldwide can host events from October 7 to 13. The guiding image for 2019 was created by Eva Marisaldi (born Bologna, 1966), who reworked a frame from her 2002 video 'Legenda,' showing stones mimicking human behaviors to comment on communication excess. Marisaldi will also have a solo exhibition across AMACI museums. The article reviews the guiding images from the past seven editions: Marzia Migliora (2013) with 'Aqua Micans' featuring water carriers at Alberto Burri's Grande Cretto in Gibellina; Adrian Paci (2014) with 'Greeters,' a frozen video frame of two youths; Alfredo Pirri (2015) with 'Passi,' depicting bare feet on a cold surface; Emilio Isgrò (2016) with 'Preghiera per l’Europa,' a canceled Europe map; Liliana Moro (2017) with 'Pane quotidiano,' a typographic phrase; and Marcello Maloberti (2018) with 'Medusa,' a helmeted African youth. Each image reflects on social and political themes.
