AMACI Launches Art Education Initiative with Italian Schools
AMACI, the Italian Association of Contemporary Art Museums, has expanded its educational programs through a new initiative called 'Sperimento l'arte! Musei e artisti nelle scuole' for the 2016/2017 school year. This project, developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and the Ministry of University, aims to foster art literacy among young students by creating synergies between schools and museums nationwide, with a focus on peripheral and economically disadvantaged areas. The program involves 24 AMACI-affiliated museums and includes workshops and meetings both at schools and museums, led by artists. Examples include at Naples' Castel Sant'Elmo, where artists Rosy Rox, Nini Sgambati, Rosa Panaro, and Giuseppe Pirozzi will work with students from Secondigliano middle school; at the Madre museum, Roxy in the Box will conduct a workshop with students from Liceo Artistico Statale SS. Apostoli; at Museion in Bolzano, Silvia Hell will run a workshop with students from the Johannes Steinhäuser professional school for stonemasons and sculptors in Lasa; and at Mart in Trento and Rovereto, Chilean artist David Aaron Angeli (born 1982) will meet primary school children in Dimaro. AMACI's educational commitment began two years ago with Educational days and artist projects starting in spring 2015, followed by a formal agreement with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage in October 2015 to promote contemporary art knowledge and public interactions.
