Alymamah Rashed's Solo Show on Failaka Island

Kuwaiti visual artist and storyteller Alymamah Rashed (b. 1994) is showcasing her fourth solo exhibition titled 'Earth can be as dead as it can be alive.' Curated by Mathqaf, the exhibition is being held at Dar FIKAR on Failaka Island, running from November 4 to 18. It features twenty new pieces, including paintings, drawings, installations, and performances, created during Rashed's six-month residency at the Failaka Institute for Knowledge and Arts Research (FIKAR). Throughout her residency, she gathered various found objects from the island—such as seashells, pottery fragments, terrazzo, and beach rocks—which inspired her studies on expansion and shrinkage. This research led to an exploration of rituals and fertility, forming the foundation of her new works. The exhibition is a collaboration among three regional independent art entities: Hunna Art Gallery, FIKAR, and Mathqaf, aimed at fostering cross-disciplinary art and knowledge. Accessible only by boat, it encourages visitors to trace Rashed's journey and experience the distinctiveness of Failaka.
