Alvisi Kirimoto to Restore Rome's Rationalist Palazzo dei Congressi

architecture-design · 2026-04-26

The restoration and technological refunctionalization of the Palazzo dei Congressi in Rome's EUR district will be spearheaded by the architecture firm Alvisi Kirimoto, with funding of €1 million from Italy's Pnrr fund contributing to the total budget of €8 million. This 24-month initiative, commencing in 2023, will keep the venue operational. Originally designed by Adalberto Libera in 1938 and completed in 1953, this marks the first extensive renovation of the building. Notable enhancements will feature movable glass panels, upgraded acoustics, and the creation of up to 24 acoustically isolated rooms. Additionally, Eur Spa has sanctioned a €93 million capital increase as part of a €120 million investment strategy to develop the district into an international hub, led by architects Massimo Alvisi and Junko Kirimoto.
