Alvisi Kirimoto and Renzo Piano unveil Piazza Faber installation in Tempio Pausania
On July 21, 2016, an installation by Alvisi Kirimoto with artistic supervision by Renzo Piano was inaugurated in Piazza Faber, Tempio Pausania, Sardinia. Commissioned by the Unione dei Comuni Alta Gallura, the project consists of 12 suspended triangular fabric elements that can be opened or closed like sails, controlled by motors and automated via anemometer and hygrometer to protect against wind and rain. The installation honors Fabrizio De André's bond with Sardinia and his passion for Faber-Castell pastels, inspiring the nickname "12 colored pencils." The lightweight structure, anchored to 18th-century granite buildings, creates shade and can serve as a projection surface. Architect Massimo Alvisi stated the design shifts focus above the square, encouraging viewers to look beyond rooftops and engage with the sky. The opening featured a celebration with Dori Ghezzi and the architects.
