Alveari Urbani: Art and Urban Beekeeping at Fondazione Benetton

publication · 2026-04-27

In 2015, the inaugural Artist Apiary was established in Milan's Orti di via Padova, initiated by Alveari Urbani to promote urban beekeeping through artistic and design elements. This initiative received the Premio Expo in Città for its efforts in biodiversity conservation during the Milan Expo. Additional projects include Mauro Rutto's Apiario d'autore in Puglia (2019) and various initiatives at Cascina Merlata, Giardino di San Faustino, and Parco di Villa Litta. Founded by Claudia Zanfi, Alveari Urbani will showcase 'Le api, l’arte, la città' at the 'Naturale inclinazione' talks on September 20, 2023. Bees are crucial for pollinating 70% of plant species but face threats from agriculture and climate change, with other projects like the Bioparco Apistico San Marino and Eythstrasse cemetery in Berlin.
