AlUla photography exhibition opens on Monaco's Promenade du Larvotto

exhibition · 2026-04-26

From August 3 to September 3, 2024, the open-air exhibition 'AlUla: A Tapestry of Creativity' is on view along the Promenade du Larvotto in the Principality of Monaco. Organized by Arts AlUla, it features 24 large-format photographs (3×2 meters) by eight international photographers: Moath Alofi, Huda Beydoun, Lance Gerber, Catherine Gfeller, M'hammed Kilito, Prince Michel de Yougoslavie, Matthieu Paley, and Robert Polidori. The works capture the geological, archaeological, and artistic treasures of AlUla, an oasis in northwest Saudi Arabia along the ancient Incense Route. The exhibition is part of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy through tourism and culture. AlUla has seen major investments since 2017, including the AlUla Arts Festival, AlUla Design Gallery, Desert X, and Wadi Al Fann, a land art project spanning over ten kilometers of desert canyons, advised by former Whitechapel Gallery director Iwona Blazwick. Nora Aldabal, Executive Director of Arts and Creative Industries at the Royal Commission for AlUla, stated that the show demonstrates AlUla's ability to inspire new generations of artists and bring Saudi art to the international stage. The photographs result from residencies, commissioned projects, and independent visits. QR codes at access points provide visitor information and a digital catalog.
