AlUla Artist Residency Presents 'Future of Nostalgia' Group Exhibition in Tokyo During Art Week 2025

exhibition · 2026-04-22

The exhibition titled Future of Nostalgia, showcasing 20 artists from the AlUla Artist Residency programme, debuted in Tokyo during Art Week Tokyo 2025. Curated by Ali Alghazzawi and Arnaud Morand, this event is a collaboration between Arts AlUla and the French Agency for AlUla Development (AFALULA). Drawing inspiration from Svetlana Boym's 2021 publication, the exhibition delves into themes of memory, time, and the perception of reality, highlighting nostalgia's complex nature. In celebration of the 70th anniversary of Saudi Arabia-Japan relations, featured artists like Sarah Brahim, Abdessamad El Montassir, and Han Mengyun present works that resonate with AlUla's landscape and concepts of memory and transformation. The exhibition will be open until 16 November.
