Altrove Opens Avanzamento Progressivo Temporary Space in Milan During Design Week

other · 2026-05-04

During Milan Design Week, Altrove, one of Europe's leading public art festivals, has opened Avanzamento Progressivo, a temporary 160-square-meter space at via Olona 25, near the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio. The initiative, running until April 22, hosts multidisciplinary events including performances, workshops, inclusive contemporary art labs, talks, roundtables, live installations, video documentaries, and music. Featured artists include Domenico Romeo, Canemorto, Gonzalo Borondo, Giorgio Bartocci, Ekta, and Sbagliato. Altrove, founded in 2014, is known for its festival in Catanzaro, which will hold its fifth edition in August for the first time. The Milan space aims to immerse visitors in the creation and installation process of artworks, contrasting with the design-focused logic of the week. Founders Vincenzo Costantino and Edoardo Suraci stated they felt at home in Milan, as many collaborating artists live there. They are seeking partners to potentially open a permanent "Casa Altrove" in Milan next autumn, envisioning a base for the movement to reunite and continue experimentation.
