Altremuse: The Social Project Disrupting Art History with Irreverence

Founded by Sofia Schubert in April 2020, Altremuse is an Italian social media initiative that utilizes psychedelic visuals, techno beats, and graphics inspired by grime to explore art history. Officially launched in September 2020, the project boasts a team of 15 members and close to 10,000 followers on Instagram. It tackles various subjects, including feminism, gender, labor, LGBTQ+ rights, and fashion, while referencing 'other muses' in art critique, such as Angela Vettese and Hermione Granger. The visual branding was crafted by Valeria Accurso, Elisa Chiari, Francesca Trovato, and Mathieu Narduzzi. Altremuse critiques elitist museum culture in Italy, commending institutions like Fondazione Prada. They have released reports on events like Turin Art Week and the Venice Biennale, with plans for a museum partnership, a print magazine, and parties.
