AltoVolo's Sigma Hybrid VTOL Aircraft Promises 500-Mile Range and 220 MPH Top Speed
AltoVolo, a company based in London, has introduced the Sigma, which it describes as the first 'HyperTOL' hybrid VTOL aircraft in the world. A prototype, measuring approximately 13 feet in length and weighing 2,160 lbs, has already completed its inaugural flight, with a full-scale version anticipated by the end of 2025. The Sigma can travel 500 miles in hybrid mode and 250 miles solely on electric power, reaching speeds of up to 220 mph at altitudes of 10,000 feet. The aircraft is said to generate 80% less noise than traditional helicopters. It features a 16-foot wide cabin accommodating two passengers and luggage. With 25 hours of training, Sport Pilot certificate holders can operate it in good weather during daylight. AltoVolo aims for full type certification in the commercial aircraft sector, benefiting from strong relationships with certifying authorities in Europe and the U.S.
